The Differences Between a Sunroom and Screened Porch
Living in Maryland means getting to enjoy each of the four seasons to the fullest. Taking in the leaves in fall, enjoying the fresh flowers in the spring and even seeing the bright snow in winter are part of why this state is such a wonderful place to live. Unfortunately, insects and the elements can stand between you and enjoying your landscape. Adding a sunroom and screened porch to your property, or either one, is a great way to make the most of your outdoor space.
The Differences Between a Sunroom and Screened Porch
- Protection from the Elements: A screened porch offers some protection from rain overhead, but it will not protect you from hot weather, cold weather or precipitation that is blowing sideways due to wind. A sunroom (also known as a three-season room or four-season room, offers protection from the weather outside, and can also be heated or cooled using portable fans or by connecting it to your central heat and air.
- Seasons When You Can Use It: Another difference between a sunroom and screened porch is the number of seasons when you can use the space. A screened porch can only be used when the weather is nice, so typically from mid-spring to mid-fall. A three-season room can easily be used for all of spring, summer and fall. A four-season room can be used every day of the year!
- Heating and Cooling Options: When you have a three-season or four-season room, you can use electricity to operate a ceiling fan or space heater, or, depending on your configuration, even use your central heating and cooling to regular the space. A screened porch typically has no heating or cooling options, but sometimes they have ceiling fans.
The Similarities Between a Sunroom and Screened Porch
- Bug Protection: Both a sunroom and screened porch will offer you protection from insects and pests flying around outside. A sunroom will offer maximum protection as it has glass panels and not screens, but a screened porch will still keep the biggest bugs away from your dinner.
- Affordability: When you work with Excel Fencing and Decking, your sunroom or screened porch will always be as affordable as possible.
